I am trying my bit here but have a long road to prove it to everyone.
No one backs you until you have proof – how do you get proof without developing it – nice conundrum when it costs money to prove that it can remove money
I just wanted to add a idea about the Occupy Sydney what and how it should be organized , i am not a expert of in organizing but some things i may suggest can come on board, i will list them down below.
1)we need to volunteers with lap tops over there so it people can up load videos on social media like f/book youtube ect like in the USA .
2)If the Occupy is going to be like 24/7 like in the USA, well it would be a good idea to donate for food and drinks to the people who is sticking around, also people could register interest whatever needed to be done as volunteers , weather its making signs and the ones i have mentioned above ect.
if more comes to my mind i will sharing more of the ideas.
You can take it a couple of steps further and stream live, it’s not that expensive these days, also run an amateur community radio station which could continually broadcast updates. There are also other high tech possibilities like creating an app that would receive messages and give status updates, and heaps of other possibilities. All that is needed is a friendly bunch of computer nerds working together harnessing the true power of social networking and I don’t mean Facebook or Twitter because they are already compromised and part of the evil system we are fighting against.
I would like to verify ‘mouses’ comment, as an Advanced Amateur Radio Operator and member of the Wireless Institute of Australia and WICEN and two other Amateur Radio Clubs, I can tell you right now over the last month a number of Pirate Radio Stations have been located and dismantled, the operators of which will be prosecuted under the Federal Telecommunications Act, so basically who wants a bunk mate named Spike eh!
Having said that, what you could do, and now I in no way endorse this, however, the tech is available at either JayCar or otherwise, to build an FM Transmitter (Bug) that can operate just shy of the normal Australan FM Band Plan, circa 88 MHz. It takes about 20 mins to solder one of these FM Transmitters together, or you can simply get them on EBay online or various spy shops in Australia fo ra quick delivery.
Anyone within circa 50 – 200m depending on the final Amp Stage Power of the device could receive the signal via FM Radio or their FM Radio capable mobile phone. Carrying around a larger RF amp Requires additional circuitry ACMA could just jam you on the FM IF Frequency (10.7 MHz) if they get a wind of it anyways. Incidentally transmitting on the IF frequency with enough power to override the reception of any FM station someone is listening to (EG as in the tunnels though out Sydney ie Traffic Announcements) would require an RF AMP with enough power to do so, and this would in most cases need to be done from in a car, bit too obvious otherwise.
If one is mobile this becomes difficult for anyone trying to triangulate your position.
Just keep in mind you will have to broadcast your frequency to the masses this means utilising social media or a Bluetooth hack to get the word out, so unless you have a shell account off shore or able to use Tor or some other method of maintaining anonymity such that you won’t get caught, then a level of expertise will be required.
You don’t want to be arrested for inciting afray as many did in the UK riots.
My two cents worth, of course minus GST, Child Support, Up Coming Carbon Tax, State Taxes and probably a fat tax
yeah well ive had encounter with the law in relation to the facebook and the cops i spoke to told me the defence cause they didnt wanna arrest the rich person in the highpaying government job who obviously broke the law with her threat anyway the lovely government socialite told me that anyone could of accessed the paramedics account AND THEY WOULDNT BE FOLLOWING MY COMPLAINT UP true story as it aint just cops above the law investigating themselves and keeping communitys on the ground…COMMON TERM FOR BLUE CARD RECIPIENT IN THE AMBULANCE SECTOR IS A TROG
OH WELL BETTER TO BE A TROG THEN BE LIKE THEM WITH NO FEELINGS AND AM EXTREMELY DESENSITIZED SERVICE
My job is to inform the world about the 1%.I should be getting about 80 or 90 dollars per hour for telling the world about the oppression of 99% but all i get is a lousy disability pension.
Have a good look at who owns Apple, Microsoft, and Google, it is the same investors. I have no problem with those companies per we, albeit the alterior motives behind the tech itself.
Actually, these companies pay their workers a pittance pay of about 60 cents an hour, with terrible working conditions, bullying, deprivation of liberty and sexual abuse of their female workers. These mega-rich companies can well-afford to pay better wages and provide workers with decent work places, not sweat-shops!
Excellent Idea Simon, we need to be organised. We need to do it as quick as possible.
There are no bad ideas, just ideas that require prioritisation
Volunteers are tantamount to the success of this movement, as is a defined purpose other than “We hate the boogie man, and we are going to shout about it”
This kind of attitude gets us no where.
We need to define our Situation, our Mission, our Execution, our Administration and Logistics, and our Command and Signals. We need to analyse an appreciation of the situation, determine multiple courses of action, and conclude the best course and implement the mission defined by this best course with precision.
To act otherwise or as a collective mob or rabble will ensure the mission is doomed.
We need mind mapping or brain storming, and you and those like you are the system by which we accomplish our goals.
Exactly right. You need to define what it is you are unhappy about.Which government you are unhappy with and even better what do you want them to do about it.
I cant see what you guys are on about. If i could I may be sympathetic.
good to see you!! Watching with interest & great to see such a diversity of groups developing separately & independently. great use of wordpress too BTW -from the @occupySydney Alliance on Twitter
There is no advertsing here for that very reason, the owners of this site run it from personal funding (that is what ever is left at the end of the fortnight after every bill toll and tax is removed and food rent and whatever else is paid for..
Another thing, there is no where on this site to donate. No PayPal button. We all have enough problem paying our bills, we do not want your money!
We are NOT selling anything. We are NOT Begging for anything.
All we have done here is give you a VOICE, let you espouse what Freedom of Speech you have left before it is taken away from you by the elitist oligarchs and lunatic legislators who would Silence you!
We want nothing in return. You have come here because for what ever reason you are disenchanted. Most of us, are disenchanted. We watch our constitutional rights slaughtered by statutes. We watch our common law rights slaughtered by lunatic judicial precedence.
We watch the laws of Torts muzzle or voices.
We have watched our financial system kill us. Greed has taken over our world. We are now but the pawns in a game of chess, and like keystone cops we run around in circles trying to decipher that which is, from that which is not.
If you want to know why this mess has occurred look to those who have helped create the Nanny State we live in.
True Freedom has NO Caveat.
OCCUPYSYDNEY OCCUPY”PLACE CITY HERE” needs one but only one purpose.
To tell those people that would enslave us, that they can rot in hell. We will NOT be ruled by the elitist few.
We want our Freedom, some of us have friends who today may DIE fighting for it.
Some of us have spent some of our own lives Fighting for it..
Apathy is our enemy. As justice is blind, we have been blind to it.
Thankyou, following your twitter feed and retweeting it. My Web Master will be stoked with your appraisal of the site, he spent about 20 hours on getting it up over night mostly dealing with the ISP he uses (A Major Telco) having a fit everytime it rains, so uploading files was a hassle. But I think this use of this WP Theme is best for this purpose. We are assimilaing material and will start updating shortly. For the moment this forum is a good command center if needed and all comers are encouraged to comment or post in the forum and the site.
just letting you know, I’m here to volunteer. I’m not much in the way of an organizer, but i don’t want to see this fizzle out.
I’m particularly handy with sound systems and music, but i can help with anything. just hit me up.
i think music is a fantastic way to draw attention and show we are PEACEFUL assemblies. pumpng music out would generate a great atmosphere and break down some of the walls for those pedestrians who are interested but nervous to make an approach… music would generate numbers….
we all need to utilize the tools they give us. we all need to twitter and facebook this to death. best way to generate awareness…
Also, i agreew with J, we gotta try and have a group focus. we dont want to alienate curious passers-by. the root of 99% of our concerns would be aleviated through a major rethink in regards to the monetary system – peole can relate to this and arent alienated through lack ofknowledge….If we can show that society can operate without money, we would open many eyes.… money is how they control us of course. a large scale ‘take a penny, leave a penny’ concept… if we SOMEHOW implemented an exmaple of this on Saturday it could really open some eyes….
i’m wondering, could someone with more legal expertise than me drum up some info on playing amplified music at protests? best to keep it legal as possible, we don’t want to give out reasons to be arrested.
Check out Michael Mozart on Google+. He is a great source, and has great links to how it is being done in NYC.
Keep it real. If you are going to represent 99%, you need to keep it about money. Bringing in, for example, Environmentalist or socialist or for that matter facist causes, is going to turn of a hell of a lot of people. This is people vs Govt and big interests. That’s the issue, and focus ought remain there.
There needs to be face to face meetings, of interested parties, all the time, and regularly. Shit, you could even just begin by holding a meeting every night in front of Governor Phillip and Macquarie towers, just to discuss, in public, how the movement is going to run.
I understand that decisions in new york are being made on the scene on a mass concensus basis. That is awesome. So we go occupy, and then we start deciding where and how it is going to go.
Corporations = Environmental catastrophes, war etc. I mean, the destruction of Australian land, BP Gulf oil spill, Niger oil spill, all corporate and the bourgeois greed. Iraq war, Afghan war, Libya, our support for dictators if they supply us (well the US) with good oil contracts, generally our overall support for the U.S government. Corporate prisons and detention centers.
I think keeping this purely to corporate greed in Australia is a tad off putting, most Australians are quite well off and are completely apathetic, although yes it would raise awareness, us walking around with 99% slogans seems a tad silly to gain awareness. America and UK have exceptions, their poverty line is increasing day by day.
More issues = more numbers = more awareness = more discussion. It should be a progressive movement, something our government is not doing, class consciousness, bias media, education and health costs, gay rights, anti war, anti corporate, free palestine, refugee rights, aboriginal rights etc etc I think.
this movement is not about gay rights, environmentalism or anything else you are mentoning. you are muddying the waters, and your message will be lost. have a clear goal and propose a solution. moron celebrities and socialists are already ruining your movement.
and yes, i’m a banker. sorry for trying hard at school and earning a decent wage because i want to live well.
Do not apologise for being what you are, or for earning a living in a manner that you felt compelled to engage in.
Just because you are a banker does NOT make you the enemy.
Single most injustice is the system itself.
The very second we sat back and watched our governments move away from the Gold Standard was the moment in time that brought us all here!
We need the Gold Standard back. If we are going to shout out anything in this protest, it must be to bring back Gold as the underlying foundation of our individual country’s wealth.
You can print all the money you like. It is meaningless without the backing of Gold that it should represent.
As soon as we started giving away something we never had, say hello GFC
This gold standard stuff is not really relevant to Australia we do not have a government debt problem. Private debt is the elephant in the roopm. The Gold standard retoric is relevant for the astroturf tea party groups from the US supported by their big corporate backers. What is relevant to Australian is the overseas mining companies who are making super profits of $100 billion and sending it back to the US and Europe and the poor old Aussie is left with very little of that wealth

THATS IT FIONA IT IS NOT THEIR LAND WITH THEIR DIRTY MONEY RAPING THE LAND AND WITH THEIR HIGH INFLUENCE DUE TO WEALTH THE GOV WILL PASS IT EVEN IF THEY NEED TO DISREGARD RULES AS IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA

This gold standard stuff is not really relevant to Australia we do not have a government debt problem.”
Without trying to appear rude, ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ?
Where the hell do you think the Government is getting its money from ?
Do you think it is coming from the taxes we pay ?
My God ! We are borrowing 100′s of millions of dollars (Play Money) from China every week.
Who do you think is going to pay that back ?
The Sovereignty of Australia is no longer existent.
We owe, and it is off to work you go !
Gillard has done a lovely little deal with the PRC.
They can practically sail their Warships into Sydney Harbour any time they like.
Like we are going to stop them anyway !
I do not know if you know this, but, a budget being in Surplus, does not mean all the money we have borrowed to run stupid schemes that never worked, or broke in between, or killed people, or what ever else you can think of, well, a Surplus only means we have money left over to pay some of those millions of borrowed moneys back.
It does not mean we are in the Black.
It just means we are in a position to stop grabbing more money off of China or whoever else Swan is grabbing it from.
Swan and Gillard are lunatics with a Credit Card you are going to be paying off.
It is simple math 101. You borrow, you pay interest, and you give it back, else you are bankrupt or owned.
Guess what. We no longer OWN this Country.
Guess what happens when China wants to cash in, and we do not have the Gold to back it up.
And the Gold Standard by the way is not Rhetoric. Gold is Wealth.
He who has the Gold makes the Rules.
All that paper crap is crap.
All your superannuation if you have any left, after the world stole it from you, with Swans help, well that crap never existed anyway.
If you cannot touch it, feel it, taste it, sleep with it, or knock your brains out with it, then it isn’t gold and you do not have it.
You can have all the shares in the world, all the cash in investments you damn well please.
When the companies or corporations go broke, or the stock market craps itself like it has and it will only crap itself further, well, guess what, if you took all that money out of the exchange and bought gold, well you would still have something tangible to play with.
Shares, bonds, notes are all crap that does not exist, and since we do not base our dollar on the gold standard anymore, guess what we have for the luxury of playing stupid monopoly games ?
Sweet Foxtrot Alpha thats what we have, NOTHING.
No one will ever have anything, unless they have the Gold to Back it Up !
You cannot argue with 4000 years of history.
The Egyptians knew it.
The Greeks knew it
The Romans Knew it.
The French Knew it
The Mayans knew it
The Incas knew it.
And then we started playing with plastic non existent crap and moved from the standard.
Now you know why we are where we are today.
And do not worry about the mining companies.
For everyone in Sydney, who lives in Sydney, well you do Foxtrot Alpha for the contribution of wealth to this nation.
Western Australia, and Queensland are the only two states in this country who produce anything on a scale large enough for this country to exist.
Without those two states you would not be able to have an Occupy Sydney, because you would be broke, homeless, and begging for your dinner.
The problem began when some moron decided that foreign investment in our country was a good thing.
The problem began when some moron decided, everyone in every other country can walk on in and buy up any piece of real estate they like.
Well guess what, we have been sold out. You are owned by China.
How does it feel to know that Tomorrow When the War Began is probably more real and imminent than you thought.
Think about that for a bit then figure out where you will hide.
Because it will be your hide you will be selling when they catch up with you.
There is plenty of room on Darlinghurst Rd and Victoria St for you to hock your goods.

Really? Moderation? Wow. Nice to see you supporting freedom.
Where does it state on here that this is a free speech site?
People can go have their rant anywhere, or just watch any TV station for an opposite opinion to what you get here.
This is our place to be heard and I see deleting of trolls comments as a healthy way to make sure that this doesn’t get off topic into a battle of words between people that would never agree anyway = COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME!
LOL….talk about mind control…democracy…and representing the other 98%…moderation is just as bad as what you are railing against…who decides which view is not representative of the other 98%….the danger in any group is that once the hierarchy forms…the integrity of each member of the group being fully represented can be lost.
Pull your money out of the banks and put it in to an Australian Credit Union. This is big movement going on in the states. Credit unions are much more stable then banks and are non profit. People are doing are pulling out in droves. Annomous has a facebook site
It just shows how the mainstream media is so quite about the occupy wall street in the here in Australia hey? i am sure most have noticed and over past 3 weeks its only been mentioned 2 or 3 times for less then a minute LOL , these media devils know that the less exposure the better.
But anyway peoples of the world. Join the resistance against this global Ponzi Scheme that had brought nothing but debts and hypocrisy.
Will be there if I can – Have young children, and am wondering if I should bring them? I understand the peace of the occupation, but obviously need to think about it.
Will try my best to be there, but if I’m not there on the first day, I’ll definitely be there on Sunday or Monday!!
I hope this goes through… As a uni student, my fee’s are getting larger, and my expenses are becoming to be a lot more.
Unlike the USA, there is not (yet) widespread anger about economic disparity. People have a vague sense that the rich keep getting all the money while their expenses go up but they are not yet angry enough to take to the streets about it. Even if you could get people to the streets over the financial issues, it could be dismissed far too easily by the media as “poor people wanting something for nothing”.
Far better (especially in Sydney) to tap into the “they only listen to their donors” anger. One of the more telling symptoms of this corruption is the population debate. Most of the Australian community do not want continued population growth. In Sydney, this anger is even stronger and spreads across all socio-economic groups. The political parties recognise it as a sufficient problem to make soothing noises but still implement policies to cram more people in anyway. The most logical explanation is that the big business donors (to both major parties) are the only influence that counts.
Selling this political message is far easier than one of economic inequality. It also points to a clearer resolution that would also adress the economic inequality problems.
I believe it is our responsibility to get this message across to all the “NORMAL” people.
They too are fed up, but they have more to lose than most, their family and lifestyle stability is at stake.
We do not want this to turn into a bunch of “crazies” that would be easily written off by the media.
We also need to be aware that the media may take another tact and appear to be on our side, only to give misinformation and again devalue the ideas that are now becoming the norm in society.
I understand that these companies believe that they have put a lot back into the community, but their employees are educated by our taxes, the roads that transport their goods are paid for by our taxes, the environments and communities these companies devastate need to be repaired by OUR TAXES, and so on.
Nice rant rocket surgery.
you conveyed some important points. quite sensitive and empathetic
points I might add.
I think clear thinkers are often accused of ranting,I prefer a more respectable comment such as you have a passion for a subject.
cheers Ross
Monday the 17th. Lets make it a monday they will NEVER forget. I am postering. Email me @ choctopia@hotmail.com for a copy of the guy fawks “occupy” poster to poster up in your neighbourhood. More posters coming! Email me to get on the email list.
Hi there. Would love to help out however I can. I don’t any experience with music but if someone is simply looking for a hand I would be happy to help.
@ETR. Isn’t the protest on Saturday the 15th not Monday the 17th? (you might want to change your post to avoid confusion) Also, I would love to help with postering. Could I get a copy of the poster so I can go print it.
Here is the link for the posters I made. Looks like there will be a weekend hookup as well as the monday weekday one. This is an occupation so it doesn’t matter. But monday will be excellent becuase we can get in behind channel 7 sunrise.
DEMAND: We want our Australian National bank back! We do not need a central reserve bank that is sucking our country dry just like the federal reserve bank in the USA. The reserve bank is a private institution linked to the ‘too big to fail’ off shore banks. BRING BACK A PUBLIC BANK FOR THE PEOPLE>
Demand: The private reserve bank has no right to be printing our money and bringing us into more debt. The government should be in charge!
Demand: No to the Carbon tax which is a lie based on junk science that is going to rob Australians blind. Cut back on carbon don’t set it!!!!! The carbon tax is only about corporate land grabbing and raising revenues by taxing the masses.
Why are you parroting the corporations anti carbon tax propoganda on an anti corporate campaign. I thought we were supposed to fighting against the corporations
Carbon trading, as envisioned by GOLDMAN SACHS, is really just a carbon tax structured so that private interests collect the revenues. Instead of simply imposing a fixed government levy on carbon pollution and forcing unclean energy producers to pay for the mess they make, cap-and-trade will allow a small tribe of greedy-as-hell world bank/Wall Street swine to turn yet another commodities market into a private tax collection scheme. This is worse than the bailout: It allows the bank to seize taxpayer money before it’s even collected.“ The carbon tax goes right to the banks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CARBON TAX corprate GREED SCAM: Transnational oil companies like British Petroleum and Exxon Mobil have been amongst the biggest promoters of man-made global warming because they are headed up by New World Order globalists who understand that the carbon tax will do nothing to help the environment but will be used to bankroll the implementation of global government while swallowing up whatever deposable income impoverished Australians have left.
The fact is that global corporations will jump on anything they can make money out of and hijack it. The carbon tax debate started out as being about the environment but got ambushed by people looking for short term profit.
This is the problem we face. Huge corporations that don’t look past their own personal bottom lines. They would happily enslave huge chunks of the population if they could to make profits bigger.
This is why we must occupy, don’t be distracted by the feints and the ploys to distract you from what is really happening.
They want you, your family, your friends, your fellow citizens to do one thing – make them richer. If we suffer, if we die, if people in China or India face virtual slavery.
They don’t care and will do all kinds of stuff to keep your mind off it. 3D movies, celebrities and their scandals, sport, gambling, alcohol, drugs and the war against drugs, terrorism, silly political games they call government and above all, “entertainment”, the opiate of the masses.
Stop and really think, critically analyse, don’t just accept what is there, turn off the mobile, turn off the TV and start cruising the news sites on the net, read the papers, and read the blogs, especially the blogs.
BUT ABOVE ALL DON’T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU READ – LOOK FOR WHERE THE INFO COMES FROM, LOOK AT WHO WRITES WHAT, LOOK AT THE STUFF THAT IS REPEATED MOST AND ABOVE ALL NOTICE ALL THE CRAP AND MEANINGLESS GOSSIP THE MEDIA IS FULL OF TO HIDE THE TRUTH.
The one simple truth of humanity – we are slaves who think we are free.
Hi everyone. I have printed hundereds of posters saying the 17th of october is our day. I believe the 17th is ideal as the banks and the government will be open. If we get there early we can get onto the cameras at channel 7 sunrise program. I hadn’t heard of the 15th day untill someone just emailed me and said the protest is the 15th.
I hope this is ok with everyone let me know. I will begin distribution tonight.
There is a planning/discussion meeting (today) Wednesday 12th at 6pm at the UTS main building in the front lobby/front foyer area. This is to Occupy Sydney this Saturday Oct 15th at 2.30pm. It is on 1 Broadway St Sydney 2000. Just before and next to Railway Square on the same road as Parramatta Rd that turns into George st. Paid Parking should be available around 6pm surrounding streets and the Central Station car park. Search Occupy Sydney on Facebook for details.
Remember – no violence! And no verbal or physical violence towards the police. They are part of the 99% too (unless they are paid for by corporations as the NYPD special squad is – Who Really Owns The NYPD? Turns Out It’s Not Such A Rhetorical Question).

Sorry to go off topic, but there is something that shits me, so here it is. Why the fuck don’t we vote on our own computerss in our own homes instead of running the friggin gauntlet on polling day at the local school and having to smell the stinking sausages burning. We have the technology, we could all see who was leading minute by minute, the result could be declared instantly. Why do we still count bits of paper, seriously this just stinks of cheating, there must be a reason they don’t step into the real world when it comes to voting. Okay, back to the other topics, cheers.
Does anyone really believe voting for any politician / party has any effect? They all continue with the same policies of more control, higher taxes, and less personal freedom.
Anyone who thinks the world’s problems can be solved politically isn’t really thinking … are they?
I guess half the population is worried that the risk of hacking/tampering of electronic voting booths outweigh the obvious efficiency gains. However, if it can work on Australian Idol…
G`Day dear followers of the Austrian School of Economics!
I would suggest attacking the real-estate/bankster/housing price speculator lobby for artificially inflating the housing bubble.
This lobby is sucking blood from the young people and the immigrants by inflating house prices / rents and then pushing mortgage loans one may never pay back. There is no more stinking example of economic exploitation in Australia.
1. End negative gearing
2. End first home owner grants and other subsidies
3. Relax planning laws and get rid of the silly building standards
4. Advocate First Home Buyers strike – until the prices collapse and housing becomes affordable again
Firstly I am not an expert on negative gearing or it’s implications, so will abstain from comment.
However a couple of points……
“Sucking the blood from Young People”…… how about sucking the blood from anybody wanting to buy a house.
Relax planning laws….I have many issues with the NSW S.E.P.P it is nothing but an Agenda 21 / ICLEI contrived document. Sustainable Development is a buzz word that sounds cool. It is nothing but a ploy to remove you from the suburbs, force you to live in flats and ensure you or your children never enjoy a trip to the beach, a trip outside the city limits, or live anywhere but where they want you to live. They do not want you to have your quarter acre block. They want nothing but vertical sprawl. So yep planning changes I can live with!
Building standards, well not sure what you are inferring to, but we have the building code of Australia and Australian Standards for a reason. If you want your house falling down around you, which I am sure you do not, sure beg for that one to disappear. A little more elucidation please.
An over-haul of Real Estate practices I totally agree with. Have you seen the crap hovels they are forcing people to pay millions for in Sydney?
Then the respective councils make you wait 3 years plus just so you can have a car port over your Mini.
Gimme a break. That’s the crap we need to get rid off.
And we would be surprised in which way about this? The Murdoch press is too busy trying to make sure they have a friendly government in power that won’t interfere with thier profits!
Not having a full understanding of media, but i beleive that this wont be on any news on monday night as the media mogels dont want this to become an issue. But if this were to be on monday night news itll be only for five minutes and the report will be nothing, but telling other australians that these people who have protested for ‘Occupy Sydney’ left monday morning to go back to their day jobs not clarifing that these people needed to go back to their day jobs because they have bills, taxes, Mortgages and family comitments that they need to deal with on a daily basis.
The Australian will NOT as long as the Socialist Alliance, Unions, Marxists, Communists, Anarchists and Fabians try to hijack some very valid issues that the majority of Australia have to protest about. Oh and did I mention GetUp? Forgot that bunch of morons.
The Lucky Country? Garbage … the bank that lent me money (BANK WEST in WA) to buy my house bleeds me to death in interest rates … Fuck the greedy, money hungry bastards! This is the story of thousands and thousands. Imagine the pain and suffering ordinary families go through to meet even the simplest in mortgage payments. Don’t default, they’ll rip your roof from over your head and sell it to ensure a profit. Who cares about your family! No one cares about you.
The corporations controlling basic services such as gas, electricity, water, etc ask for MORE money via a “penalty” when you’re late. They all do. Great philosphy. Make us pay more when we have trouble paying what’s already “OWED”.
Optus, Telstra and these communications corporations. Absolute dyed-in-th-wool thieves. Take Optus for example … $15.00 late payment fee … $2.00 paper bill fee … a fee for taking a shit. And don’t try calling them, you’ll get a robot answering.
These people, these coporations have a sickness. They talk about people like they’re a number. Charge charge charge, fee fee fee, exploit exploit exploit … they are drunk on currency, drunk with greed. It’s killing us all slowly.
The respective Australian governments and their agents are no better. They are regulating us to death to serve the corporations, they are taxing us to death, they are lying to us consistently, they are cheating us out of what we have born fucking human rights to on this earth. A shelter, food, clothing, safety etc … they exploit and take advantage of us at EVERY turn. No fucking stone is left unturned.
Don’t believe me? Too aggressive? Read the TERMS AND CONDITIONS of most corporations offering a service. They have the legal authority to destroy you. No it’s not a joke. None of this is funny. Not in the slightest.
There’s more. If you can’t pay them or dispute them for their claim of what you owe them, they can tell all the other corporations that you failed (the good ‘ol credit rating). This is probably one of the most damaging exploits these greedy bastards have over the people.
Then there’s “policing” and “the law”. Pfft. The law is used as a weapon against the people all the time. The police … the largest gang in New South Wales. They’ll no doubt be there today to intimidate, stalk, surveil and lock away those that they see fit to on the orders of their masters. Fuck them. Don’t fear them. They serve their masters, not us.
I could go on but I’d be writing a book. I could elaborate on every point with references and proof. Too time consuming for now. I have to go back to work on Monday to pay BANK WEST more than half my monthly income so their CEO can buy a new fucking boat this year.
I’ll be at Occupy Sydney today and at every other one after that and I’m spreading the word.
I’ve had enough of this shit. I want it to end. I don’t care how, it just has to stop.
If the people in these so called “governments” won’t serve their people, we need to kick them the hell out.
Wow it must be painfull to see the world as you do…. I can suggest a cure for your distress…… change of perspective – sell any non essential modcons ( Flatscreens, computers, aircon 2nd car,or downgrade a model or two etc and anything you havent used in the last 12 months to buy a ticket to the poorest 3rd world destinations, stay not in a hotel- but out with the people.
when you start to think that your garden shed australia starts to seem like luxury …. then you can start having a better life.
I been there mate it sure works!
oh BTW … it was YOUR CHOICE to live the debtors lifestyle.
So what is your alternative solution? In what countries do you profess this has worked?
What is the counter-thesis to capitalism? It seems as though there is just a lot of people who haven’t had as much professional success in life having a whinge that other people are getting it better than they are.
At the end of the day, some people are paid millions of dollars because they have the skills to demand that type of money. Why is that unfair? There is no reason why the uneducated McDonalds manager should be getting paid any more than he is. It seems as though some people at these protests seem to think otherwise.
Here here. Thats all I can gleen from this; its just another outlet for the lazy, stupid or squanderers (or a combination of the three) to get their jealousy heard. Australia is the greatest place to be in the world at the moment, if you want to live the life style of a first world consumers – low unemployment, strong growth, stable social cohesion, low pollution, great amenities and recreational opportunities. I just don’t get it; those who are prepared to work hard will get their rewards.
I came from a single parent home, with my parent working part-time. I now hold an honours degree, own a house (well, mortgaged), am married, have health insurance, have a great social life – I just have a great life. According to your groups central thesis, I’m the 99%. Funny that, instead of going to these sit ins I went to work and earned my living rather than professing my jealousy of those who have more money than me.
So Ray dude, you seem to have swallowed the corporate mirage. I do not fall into the category you dump all protesters into. Problems is I am well educated, well paid and a patriot. Unfortunately I am also intelligent enough to see that capitalism, communism, socialism and democracy are just words – what lies behind is the eternal quest for power and control.
Corporations (which include the banking sector) seek to control the consumer to maximise profits for the few at the expense of the many. How you can say a person has enough skills to be worth $5 million a year plus bonuses when a company’s profits and market share is taking a dive, is beyond me. If this was an isolated incident perhaps this would be okay, but it happens so often.
Add to this the poor keep getting poorer, the rich keep getting richer and the middle class is so engrossed in the latest, gadget, TV show, or entertainer’s “scandal” they would know they are being fleeced for all they are worth.
Look at Petrol – the price we pay for petrol at the pump is set how? They say “strong US dollar”, but now the US dollar is weak we still pay more. They say “the price of Singapore Tapis is high” but it falls and still we pay more. We had a weekly cycle of “cheap” and expensive days that coincided with the majority of paydays so the price was highest on payday. Now of course after this ruse had become widely know they just moved away from that model to basically expensive all the time.
We have supermarkets that sell some products below cost such as milk and yet other items in store are inflated to make up the shortfall in the company’s revenue. So called “corporate watchdogs” investigate and come to the amazing conclusion that no; this isn’t below cost and no problems carry on!
We have a government looking to get something back from mining giants, the majority of which are foreign owned are met with a vicious multi-million dollar campaign to influence the government and the tax is dropped. These OS mining companies say they pay tax, yet the majority of their tax burden is in their parent country, not Australia. One company pays less the 5% tax in Aus with the remainder paid OS. Yet they say they pay the full tax to Aus.
We have a government who is trying to lessen the impact of poker machines on the poor (fact – the majority of players are from low income families who can least afford to gamble). Clubs make the majority of their income from pokies. Just look at Doolies if you want the facts. Now we have a huge campaign by the clubs to protect their profits. People crap on about how it is un-Australian and impinging on freedoms, but really it is just about separating cash from people. Profit at any cost is the maxim.
We no longer have a government, what we have is a group of people beholding to the corporation’s good will to stay in power and feed from the trough of the public purse. These politicians see nothing wrong with spending their careers spending taxpayer’s money like water, and then when they leave or get voted out they expect this to continue in perpetuity!
There is so many things with what you are saying. (eg, we need foreign investment as, tax or not, they provide a large pool of funding to provide jobs and growth)
But anyway, more importantly, apart from your slandering and whinging, ” what is your alternative solution?”
Also, CEO’s are paid market rates. If they are not performing, they will not stay long, just like in any job. Nothing wrong there
You want my solution? Fine you asked for it. Tighter control of the banking sector. Remove the ability of Corporate executives to set their own pay. Reduce the amount of money IN ADDITION TO THEIR PAY that politician get. Bring in the Resources Super Profit tax, remove most taxes, fees, charges, levies, duties and replace with a flat GST at say around 15%. Remove most if not all tax deductions for people earning over $2million per annum. Regulate foriegn ownership of non-renewabel resources, including farming land. Tighten the Carbon credits scheme to include more polluters to reflect the real damage to the environment the pollution causes. How’s that for a start?
As for underperforming CEO’s we have seen time and again executives presiding over the falling value of companies get bigger and bigger bonuses – god help us if the companies did well!
you have no right to tell how PRIVATE companies are run, just like no one can tell you how to run your own household or use your own money. The only obligations of the CEOs is to ensure they generate as much as profit as possible for the shareholders.

One concrete demand I would like to see endorsed is the termination of the Coles / Woolworths horizontal / vertical duopoly. Accomplishing this single objective would bring thousands of Australian families into the movement. This would entail bringing pressure on the Federal government and the ACCC to enforce existing laws and to enact new ones, based on US legislation. Rolling boycotts of Coles and Woolworths would demonstrate to these vile and greedy corporations that we are serious, but the ultimate objective is to break the duopoly apart. Any thoughts?
In regards to my comment before to Insider and Rufomagus watched mainstream News today only 2 minutes of air time with no explanation only that it was protesting Corporate Greed which could mean anything.
I know that the information about “occupy sydney” is online and readyly available but what needs to happen is get the facts right in order to gain more support, By this I mean explicitly explaining to media mogels and the general population that corporate greed is not about people earning a high income but the fact that people that earn the high income F!@# up get bailed out and other such matters which is what i believe or aleast part of this protest is about, and i know that there is more to this protest but my comment will be too long.
Im happy to help/volunteer where its needed. Im a Coordinator by career so im a good organiser. Attended on Saturday and was there last night for the GA and am able to come by every afternoon as I work close by.
Also have an awesome collection of inspiring tunes (Conscious hip hop etc) that could get passer-by’s curious and interested?
Whatever, just want to do what I can!
Also on a side note, there are 2 twitter accounts OccupySydney and OccupyOzSydney – which one is the main for updates etc?
Oh and is there a mailing list for news and supply requirements? If we could get an idea of exactly what the guys need then it would assist those who cant physically be there all the time to do their bit.
Will see what we can do about the mailing list you have requested. It is possible to have a subscription of posts and comments. You will need to register first. You do realize as registered participants you can policy make your own posts as well. WE will moderate your first three posts. After that providing it is respectful, makes a point and the language isn’t full of expletives a level of trust will be afforded to you and you can then write till your heart’s content:)
I am also working oil n an android app but there are plenty of RSS Feed readers out there so I would have to integrate it with Twitter and FB. Which is on the list too as this will be my first all I’m going to struggle I think but will give it a go
First of all I do support your movement. However when looked into it from Historical perspective, the greed in people does not change. There is nothing called as morally high politics where in democratic principles like of the people, for the people and by the people are delivered by elected governments . It is in fact for few (corporate) people, of few people (government of few people) and definitely by the people (we are the people). Having said these, please don’t support or endorse any political movements but endorse people with high moral standards in public life.
On a slightly related note, I have created a facebook group supporting Ron Paul who is currently running in the Republican primaries in the USA. I believe he has some highly valued principles and plans to help us out of the dire situation we are now in.
Australians for the most part dont really seem interested in the US Election, but almost everything we do is affected by the US & UK, the US Federal Reserve, their banking cartels (Rothschilds, JP Morgans., Illuminati, NEO Cons, NWO etc etc).
Its time to break free of the shackles!
Search for “Australians for Ron Paul 2012″ on facebook and throw us a like. Very interested in talking to other like minded (or otherwise) Aussies out there.
To solve this financial problem, set interest rates to zero and start doing effort that makes people acknowledge it, because only that effort that’s supposed to be producing money, not anything else (like interest rates, printing money over nothing, etc.). Interest rates are producing money from nothing and then partly devaluing all efforts made by us. Let me explain on fourth paragraph onward.
Zero interest will make debt rate set to zero, but it does not mean one should not pay the debt. If they can’t, the lender should get part of borrower’s income/any valuable tangible things until the debt is paid but the living expense should still be covered. If the borrower does not wish to do the condition before, then force him/her do a job that the lender acknowledges until the debt is paid. If lender does not trust the borrower, then don’t lend. This all should be done in the contract in advance.
“The problem to widening inequality even in developed countries” and “why one think money is partly slavery” are partly because of interest rate; it is a tool benefiting some groups. Let me explain:
They say “Money now is better that money later, it’s an opportunity cost, etc.” It is only true when there is interest rate. It is only when you get the opportunity to actually get the return.
Without interest rates, who has? You can not tell until you did some business/effort and knew the result. But they already set it to be + ??? (letting people to get any + rate by just putting their money in banks – this is absurd! It is making money from nothing) or – ??? (this is even absurd, nobody wants to put their money in banks, we all will use safety box or create our own banking system).
Let me ask you guys this: If there is no interest rates, even if you have a big sum of money, do you think you can always get a + return over a period by loaning/doing business/other effort? If you are doing it yourself, don’t you ever dare to say ‘yes for sure’ (try if you dare) because there are too many factors you are going to depend on (knowledge, efforts, management, good allocation of resources, competitors, acknowledgement from customers, etc.). Or, if you are loaning to a sound existing business, does the money invested always lead to increased number of customers? No! Not always, especially in a year, bullshit! You got too many factors to depend on.
And also, when the money is still at the lender hand, will they actually use the opportunity? Not necessarily, because there is risk of losing them in the opportunity. And in this case, we could see that return (interest rate) should be able to go to minus if they relate it to opportunity cost of using the money.
Nobody is sure what will happen in future, history is a good benchmark but it should not be the ultimate predictor especially in business. Past business growth rate is not going to be present/future business growth rate. And guys, don’t get a misconception of interest rate = business growth. These are two different things, in fact, the first shouldn’t exist. An example:
There are 2 brothers; A and B. A does not know what he like, he is still seeking for what he likes or (I don’t know) A just does not do anything that makes people acknowledge his effort. B likes to catch fish. One day B caught a fish and sold it to market to get $1. Second day, something happened, B got smarter or fishes got dumber or something just grew letting B caught 2 fishes then he sold to market to get $2.
Now, off course B’s business growth doubled (it grows 100%) BUT! Does this have any DIRECT impact on A’s saving account? Printing money because of existing growth in effort is absolutely fine and necessary, but for nothing, that is corrupt.
So what is the purpose of this + predetermined rate? Let me explain, this is the simulation of 2 kind of bank account:
Interest rate is 0.387…% = 1.0475^(1/12) – 1 on average per period
Living Expense is $ 2,000 on average per period
A got $ 600,000 on average in bank account
B got $ 300,000 on average in bank account
Over a period
A = 600,000 + 2,324 – 2,000 = 600,324 and increasing more and more without doing anything. 324???
B = 300,000 + 1,162 – 2,000 = 299,162 and decreasing to 0 if B never find a source of income.
Now do you guys think this is ok?
The printing of money over nothing (the 324 and more over period) over many period of time and many As’ accounts would make all the efforts made become less in value (at least in front of As).
Now, who are groups behind the rates? The groups are part of us, they mostly consist of some of A and some of B who think/want interest rates > 0% concept (by having the rate > 0 there is always sum making one gain living by nothing by fixing their living expense – Is it possible? Yes, it’s just math, look at the 600 grand figure above, reachable? Yes). Some don’t understand, some get happy with job with income > expense and some are smart powerful greedy lazy people. Who are in biggest group in fault? There is a hint; ones who are behind the interest rate who should at least belong to part of A, otherwise they are really hitting themselves… that is stupid then
The interest rate will push people to be an A. This thing is not all bad given an appropriate level of living expense and income, but the thing is, do all people have same chances to be an A? Nope, given one born from group A and one born from group B in this “+ interest rate” economy will on average (if one childhood isn’t messed up) give better chance of (good) living of the first. We are given equal chance to be born from A or B groups, but yet this interest rate economy doesn’t fully favor B’s efforts of living.
Think about what happen if there is no interest rate. Nothing changes dramatically in general except for those who heavily depend on interest rates, no changes in prices if there is no demand and supply price war. And there would be equal chance on living enjoyably that’s based on effort. Problem is.. are you an A or B? Just check these 3 factors: your basic living expense, your interest rates and the sum that’s accessible to you. If you are an A, are you willing to be somewhat poorer for the sake of majority of B? Could you make sure that your next generation would not to fall in B in this “interest rate“ economy? Maybe you could, through this usury, but will B allow you to do this for long?
With the existence of interest rate, situation is just like game theory. When you follow, it is the safest position, but it is not the safest position for all over long time especially for those who do not have the sum. If you are in debt, that thing is going to take control. And without demand and supply price war, interest rates will always create inflation for all prices. Interest rate is always the cause because it always comes first in the bank accounts. This is making interest rate always bigger than inflation rate making sure the simulation above.
The economy will just be fine without interest rate. Business growth happens mainly because there are more and more people around, more people means more effort got to be made.
These are what I want to say:
o We are given equal chance to be born from any groups (we simply did not choose); all efforts of living should stand the same across all.
o Money should be a trading agreed value of acknowledged effort at a time.
o Given the agreed value; the value of agreed effort should not grow or diminish over time because of nothing.
o Nothing should create money but acknowledged effort.
o How to determine the values? Start with the numbers of prices available, it should be close to the “real” value which should be based heavily from our basic needs.
Zero interest rate is the correct rate as:
o We do not know for sure what the actual future return of the business is (History is not the same as future)
o No acknowledged effort, no value, no money
o Effort done is unchanged, it could not grow or diminish by the past effort/nothingness
I noticed that with 0 debt rate, something should have replaced it to compensate lender. It should be a fee that’s counted as % of the first capital borrowed only. And, the borrower payment has to be able to decrease the first capital borrowed as that is the amount that the borrower wants to pay at the first time (First amount borrowed First pay). This way, it prevents lender taking advantage of borrower. And, this should only happen when there are borrower and lender, not anytime when one only wants to store/save their money.
While there is some positive energy to gain from these attempts to change what we do not like, one feels that once again these efforts are doomed to failure like all those prior. We must remember why we do what we do and be honest with ourselves about that. So we wish to change the world, focusing, for now, on corporate greed.
All this positive energy is wasted and we need to know why. Protest is a tool we utilise to voice dissatisfaction; it does not turn us to a new way of doing things. Protest makes us blame others for our lot. Protest is us sitting down in front of those we wish to confront and asking them for permission to change things a little to make us a little happier with the situation. Is it a compromise and with the current state of the world compromise is not an option. Protesting fits within the society we now wish to change so we need to do something different.
Corporate greed is our own fault. We have lived a way of life that allows for the few to make as much as they like hurting whomever they like along the way. No regard for planet, people or anything else beyond their pleasure. We gave them an inch they took a mile. If, however we had not been brainwashed into entering the cyclical nature of our society the excesses would not be on offer for the greedy to take. The class structure is designed to have most of us sitting in the middle feeding those at the top.
Some posts regarding the occupy events have asked for donations of food and drink to enable the sitters to sustain longer. This is exactly what the corporate greedy want and they will sit there and rub their hands together knowing full well nothing will change, in fact they will get richer. If we are to honestly protest we must do so at the fringes of society. Do not make the mistake of thinking that society and us are two different things, without us to do there is no society, so to change society we must change. Protest is a waste of time in the current form. The only type of protest that can force change is that which has us changing the way we live. We must become self-sustainable, we must not reply on others for our basic needs. We must take control of our own lives, one by one. If everyday some of us decided to do that then eventually we would change society. In the meantime we would be unconcerned about the impact the rest of society has on the everyday person. Why? Because our way of life would be sustainable beyond the reaches of contemporary society and we would welcome with open arms those who then decided to become self-sustainable themselves. There is no need for commune or collectives in order to do so. Simple love everyone, stop blaming others for how things are and accept responsibility for our own lives. That protest will extract each and everyone who does so out of the reaches of the greedy.
Stop waiting for permission, stop waiting for legislation, be the change you wish to see in the world, is what Gandhi said and he was right. Corporate greed is here because we have all been greedy wanting to improve the level of our pleasure and happiness via material means. Connect with all humans and break down the barriers by removing the ones in front of us.
I’ve been working for 40 years as of this month. I have seen our once uncomplicated society go down the tunnel of global market greed. I’ve written about this in the Herald as has my colleague, Peter Fitzsimons, who recently launched a book on this decline.
In my career I have been retrenched four times and for two out of the four I had to sue for my entitlements, while the C level management enjoyed salary packages that are obscene.
In one instance I was 2 IC with a global technology monster. My boss was a complete psycho.
There is a saying that individuals rise to positions that demonstrate their incompetance. Its true in lots of places.
It takes enormous courage to take on big business. In most cases they will out-resource you in court. They know thats their advantage. So one must pick the fights where you have a chance of winning.
Well said the Peter Principal is a very true rationalisation, and you hit the nail on the head. This is where strategy meets tactical implementation.
Firstly : If you are out numbered and do not have the high ground, retire in the reverse direction.
Basically when the police have a posted strength vastly out numbering your own, do not be a morons and “Take Them On” you will do three things :
A. Lose
B. Get Injured and Arrested
C. Look like an idiot.
Hence promoting nothing but an image of patheticness that the entire world will see.
Secondly : If you are not prepared to fight then get off the battle ground
Which none of you are, and it is a futile effort anyway, you are outnumbered, out gunned and overtly out smarted.
This is why the Government loves the fact you chose Martin Place. CCTV is abundant. You are watched, you are profiled, you are technologically boxed in and you have no advantage, nor right to assembly. Thus those who were so stupid as to think taking on a superior force weaponless ( I mean legally weaponless and metaphorically speaking) we’re shown to be the sheeple that they were.
Good effort, got you nowhere right ?
Thirdly: You chose the wrong location, You chose the wrong strategy ( if there was one let me know because thus I talks I haven’t heard one yet ) You didn’t think like a tactician on the ground and leadership was pathetic.
Fourthly: All is not lost, there are those among you who have a clue, who have strategic minds and have half a brain and the ability to lead
Lastly: Get educated, quit the ‘Revolution’ crap, this is not Cuba, nor Georgia, nor is it Marxism or Socialism or Communism or Capitalism that is the point here, or the solution. I read Das Kapital and the Communist Manifesto 25 odd years ago before some of you were probably born. Get over it. Any ideology whence made real is pragmatically doomed to fail in its implementation, it doesn’t matter what side of the fence you sit on.
None of you, except one brainless numpty who sent this website instructions on building a bomb to launch at police ( he is being dealt with as he ought be ) are about to go picking up guns and fight to kill for what it is you represent as an individual so keep it real and keep the crap out of the problem it only makes it worse.
Violence is not the answer, nor is a ‘sit – in’ that is going to get you arrested.
You need to think in strategic terms and analyse your actions for the consequences they will incurr whether fruitful or detrimental.
You need to pick the field, on your own terms, and you do not start a fight with servants of the crown who are only doing a job the Government pays them to do. Those people are human beings just like you who do a job most of you are unwilling to do, and face it, when you need help from them you probably have 000 on speed dial. They are as much the 99% as you are.
Sydney is a large city, remember that. Want to Occupy Sydney, think outside the box.
There are things I want to ask to those who believe in “time value of money”
Let’s say, you could get all your working income now and work later without any more pay (by using the credit card for example). By the time you reach many future events onward needing you to spend the money, are you sure you can save for those?
This “time value of money” concept put many risk of using the money unnecessarily from now to the future.
Or should you rather believe “event value of money”? By spreading your income throughout your life, you can make sure you spend the right amount for the right events.
I think it’s more realistic for the latter. We are able to do any effort since years after our births that can be valued after you did them and you want your future efforts to be valued now. That’s asking too much.
This interest rate is artificial belief. It is self fulfilling and corrupt. But, this interest rate existence is normal, because being corrupt is part of us. And yes, being not corrupt is also part of us that is self fulfilling.
We have a choice to choose/control which self fulfilling things are good for us and these worlds will just accommodate all the choices. That is all.
The Muppet’s at 2UE radio station were very critical of this protest and were ranting and raving to get rid of the protest, perhaps we should occupy the stupid talk back radio stations.
Obviously not all people working in these mega-corporations and mega-banks are bad. Some have stood up to try and get unsound and even illegal practices changed. I tried advising of problematic management of OTC derivatives in 2005 and 2006 before the GFC but was fired in retaliation. I’m sure there are many whistleblowers out there needing a medium. There is no whistleblower protection in Australia.
How about a special webpage/interview/paper/discussion group for such people? Their insight and experience will provide focus on the issues raised.
I don’t understand you guys. What exactly are you “occupying” people actually trying to achieve? Shutting down businesses/corporations? You know, without those companies which you label as “greed”, a lot of people will not even have a job. You prefer communism? Communism promotes laziness. Probably you will find a whole country of dole-bludgers if you have your way. What is ironic is that 99% of you are using the products of the very companies that you despise (iPhone, laptop computers, Facebook, Google, Toyota). Hypocrites.
Lastly, protest all you want, but do so legally (i.e. leave the place once your applied protest time is up) and stop disrupting normal people’s lives. The way you guys camp at public places is affecting commuters, tourists and others who want to have nothing to do with your cause.
Is it so hard to see that corporate greed causes all the war, famine, pollution and crime in the world? Is it so hard to SEE it? You must be blind, it’s everywhere!
The only reason that anyone suffers on this planet is because it benefits somebody elses profit margin to have them suffer.
It’s not about ending corporations, it’s about making them answerable to the people.
In case you haven’t noticed, already a lot of people do not have jobs, mostly due to automation and reduction of the workforce for increased profits, not because they are ‘dole-bludgers’. It’s that kind of bigoted small minded attitude that makes me retch.
It’s not about ‘communism’, it’s about giving everyone a fair go. It’s about getting politicians hands out of corporate pockets, instead of bailing out the banks and financial institutions and then making the working class pick up the tab.
It’s about a monetary system that does not generate actual wealth or abundance, it only generates false scarcity and DEBT.
It’s about ENOUGH of the bullshit, and how about some transparent REAL democracy, instead of the dog and pony show that everyone is accustomed to.
With the vulnerability of global economies and the recent GFC many ppl are looking for a cause to blame.. these riots need to have more of a basis ..they have not stated what they are really rioting for…. I believe that those with a greater control of assets and income have a greater responsibility to oversea the proper use of these funds .. checks and balances.. like ensuring our environment is not damaged as a result for short term gains, that society is contributed to.. There needs to be a proper balance of good government and capitalism, which was obviously lacking with the bush administration.. Wealthy investors are always looking to re-invest for even higher returns… companys always consider their shareholders & shareprice as first priority.. but the implications and impacts on society are often overlooked. Remember it was this greed that cased the home loan market to crash in the USA that caused the first GFC .
I really hope that the rumours ive heard about a major occupy protest taking place on 11/11 at 11am are not true…… This is REMEMBERANCE DAY Guys! To remember the men who gave their lives fighting regimes that would not let you protest AT ALL!
I am a disabled war veteran at the age of only 37. I am unable to march for any protest due to my injuries. Neither can my mate Jason Marks who was Killed In Action ( 4RAR (Cdo) KIA 27 April 2008). So maybe you guys could get your OWN day to march? Not too much to ask is it?
We live in one of the top wealthiest countries in the world (our dole recipients are amongst the top 10% earners in the world!)
Life is not meant to be fair … just ask the disadvantaged in India. Its what we do with our life that counts.
We in aussie have been dealt great cards in life, lets reflect on this for a minute and feel some gratitude instead of resentment.
Resentment leads to anger which leads to hate. Hate leads to the destruction of the soul.
I can understand why this movement has started. I actually think it’s a great idea, however BE CAREFULL guys! Communism started in Russia with the same sentiments EXACTLY and ended with a more horrific and longer lasting regime than Nazism!
Be wary and exclude from your protests,” professional protestors”, troublemakers, agitators and combatant types. This will advance your cause in the general public opinion.
Don’t be AGAINST anything in the world just be FOR something else. The collective conscious is changing and we can all feel it – Don’t fight the big & powerful, invite them to join you and lead still others of their kind to move forward with a singleness of purpose to make greed and fear of lack, a non reality in our new world.
Oh, and be careful out there guys!!!
Cheers johno!
I think the main problem with this movement currently is the lack of unity. Reading through this forum I’ve seen like 5-6 different strategies/plans with no real agreement. What I think we need is a centralised idea that we are ALL trying to achieve. If you want to look at history, 19th/20th century revolutionaries all had a purpose: governmental change. That’s not what we want currently but the only reason they were relatively successful was that they had something to unite them, something to put on signs and newspapers. That’s what we need.
Yes and you are about to get what you asked for over then next week so do not stress we have the plan and are finalisinh it now. You will see a vast data dump over the next few days
Hi guys.
It would be great if someone involved in occupy sydney could come and update some information re: #occupysydney at http://www.occupyaustralia.org
Basically it’s just like a middle ground for different occupations. I don’t want to poach any users or anything, just a bit of info about goings on for the couple of thousand hits it gets per day
I hope everyone is safe and happy after the scuzz ousted everyone the other day. Stay strong and united we will win this thing
As this great movement of humanity draws together to seek fundamental change, it could be useful to unify around the questions that need to be asked. If we splinter into individual causes we will dissipate our energy and not have a coherent and unified voice. It seems to me that we need to address the cause of our distress…we need a new cultural story to live by. What we are experiencing is the result of a cultural story that causes us to feel that we are separate individuals who need to compete, manipulate and exercise power over one another in order to get our needs met. And we are all seduced by the notion that a little bit more will make us happy.
We need a new cultural story that recognizes the unity of all life, that understands that what we do to another, we do to ourselves, that respects the environment, that upholds the rights of individuals and protects and respects minority groups by treating all people as equal. In order to collectively arrive at sustainable solutions we need to ask skillful questions that will lead us there. If we focus on more equitable pay, stopping deforestation, political change and the myriad of other challenges we face we may dissipate our energy and commitment. The problems we are facing now cannot be solved through the political, economic or military system. We need a spiritual (not religious) solution that honors all humanity and the environment from which we spring and that speaks to and enlivens our hearts.
Track Google Vans gives you a way to effectually protest in the real world using just your computer and a finger. Or should I say many fingers.
Corporate greed brought the world to its knees in the recent Global Financial Crisis (GFC) and the world’s climate is out of control. In short, ‘who is running this place?’
Send the message that you think the world is being mismanaged, and do it in a manner that is peaceful; whilst allowing for a bit of fun as well. .!.. So,
If you want to “Stick it to the man,” .!..
Do it peacefully, and

Be alerted when a “Google Van” is near you (these are the street view vans/cars used by some companies to enable street view),
and as they drive past, give them a warm welcome with your middle finger!
The more fingers we can get on street-view the more effective the protest will be!!!
Join fingers with us and “stick it to the van!!!”
Track Google Vans – if you want to stick it to the man, stick it to the van…
Hi,
I mostly post on “the other site” but I’m curious why there’s no connections between this and the other site?
I personally support diversity and many voices for Occupy but it is strange to see there are such diametrically opposite approaches in these two sites:
One run by a group of people who advocate consensus, sometimes to the point of exclusion.
The other (this one) seems to advocate and understand the many voices idea ,but is confusing to the hapless wanderer who stumbles upon it because it is not clear who you are.
I notice your About page doesn’t say very much about you, and there appears to be only one of you? This is confusing as .org usually implies a group.
I am not suggesting that names and identities have to be disclosed, but perhaps more info on who you are and what you support? Just a suggestion.
I would like to see all diverse Occupy sites and blogs link up loosely in some way. Is this an idea that has been discussed?
what if we just stop voting? and say were not voting till you cunts get your shit together or untill there is a completely new selection of government candidates (no offence intended but perferably younger people that share this vision of a bette world with us)..think about it if this is really a democracy they will have no choice but to listen to us? all eyes will be on them!
Pretty great post. I just stumbled upon your blog and wanted to say that I have really loved surfing around your weblog posts. In any case I’ll be subscribing to your feed and I hope you write again soon!
I simply could not depart your website before suggesting that I extremely enjoyed the standard info an individual supply on your visitors? Is gonna be back steadily in order to check up on new posts
I simply couldn’t depart your site before suggesting that I really loved the standard information a person supply in your visitors? Is gonna be back frequently in order to investigate cross-check new posts
You can certainly see your expertise in the work you write. The sector hopes for more passionate writers such as you who aren’t afraid to mention how they believe. Always go after your heart.
Hello Occupy Sydney! I have been browsing the Occupy Sydney website and am looking for recent posts and current info. I am keen to learn more about current issues relating to the Occupy movement. Does this site have current info and regular users?
Hi, I’ve had enough, where do I go, what do I do?
Hey People this is a good start knowledge is power and they can’t take that away from us! well not yet at least!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7-LbLO5NPg
I am trying my bit here but have a long road to prove it to everyone.
No one backs you until you have proof – how do you get proof without developing it – nice conundrum when it costs money to prove that it can remove money
http://www.pozible.com/index.php/archive/index/4186/description/0/0
Believe or not, get funding or not, I will keep trying as money is ruining the world we live in.
2)If the Occupy is going to be like 24/7 like in the USA, well it would be a good idea to donate for food and drinks to the people who is sticking around, also people could register interest whatever needed to be done as volunteers , weather its making signs and the ones i have mentioned above ect.
if more comes to my mind i will sharing more of the ideas.
regards
Simon – Sydney.
Keep in mind pirate radio is not a good idea—–
and also broadcasting on HAM radio with anti-government slogans will result in your home being raided,
but good on you for recognising the Information office of Awareness- no one likes breach of privacy-
I would like to verify ‘mouses’ comment, as an Advanced Amateur Radio Operator and member of the Wireless Institute of Australia and WICEN and two other Amateur Radio Clubs, I can tell you right now over the last month a number of Pirate Radio Stations have been located and dismantled, the operators of which will be prosecuted under the Federal Telecommunications Act, so basically who wants a bunk mate named Spike eh!
Before you do anything else, get a job.
My job is to inform the world about the 1%.I should be getting about 80 or 90 dollars per hour for telling the world about the oppression of 99% but all i get is a lousy disability pension.
Wouldn’t laptops be made by the big corporations you’re protesting about? Why don’t you try slabs of tree bark?
Apps = Apple. Or is that big corp ok?
Some muddle-headed thinking here people!

LOL, this is an awesome use of websites, finally a real use that is not just for advertising.
Thanx,
There is no advertsing here for that very reason, the owners of this site run it from personal funding (that is what ever is left at the end of the fortnight after every bill toll and tax is removed and food rent and whatever else is paid for..
It is now time to open your eyes !
We are using @OccupyOzSydney btw
Thankyou, following your twitter feed and retweeting it. My Web Master will be stoked with your appraisal of the site, he spent about 20 hours on getting it up over night mostly dealing with the ISP he uses (A Major Telco) having a fit everytime it rains, so uploading files was a hassle. But I think this use of this WP Theme is best for this purpose. We are assimilaing material and will start updating shortly. For the moment this forum is a good command center if needed and all comers are encouraged to comment or post in the forum and the site.
Be well friend.
Me too, add my name to the list. I can’t do much of anything very well, but I can walk, sing, yell, scream as good as the next bloke!
I think you will fit right in buddy.
just letting you know, I’m here to volunteer.
Some tips:
Cwhite I agree.
“fiona on October 13, 2011 at 8:05 pm
There are two things that have gone around the net for years and either one of them would make a huge statement, if we ever all got together to do it.
1 is to all stop buying petrol on a certain day at a certain petrol company and watch the impact.
2. is not to use electricity (no matter what) on a certain day and time.
Civil yet legal stuff like this could work but we never do it, why?
we want to hit the banks-
Goldman Sachs, and JP Morgan would be a good place to start- Be specific.
they are monsters in society- and have very long arms- into both sides of politics,
its not conspiracy- you just check it on opensecrets *shrug* simple google search shows most of it-
will dump down a load of tools later- so people can use them to create dox.
International Bank Transfer day nov 5th

I have no problem with that, thank you for the link..
Just remember, “inciting a run on the banks” will land you in prison as quick as look at you.
The problem we face, is that our government likes to pick and choose who can and who cannot protest what.
Ponzi scheme is correct!
Will be there if I can – Have young children, and am wondering if I should bring them? I understand the peace of the occupation, but obviously need to think about it.
I’m just an ordinary bloke with an ordinary job, but I have had enough of these bastards. I’ll be there.
Yeah it’s finally begun. Let’s bring it peoples!
Will try my best to be there, but if I’m not there on the first day, I’ll definitely be there on Sunday or Monday!!
I hope this goes through… As a uni student, my fee’s are getting larger, and my expenses are becoming to be a lot more.
As reasonably articulated in this MSM article, the focus in Australia has to be the link between money and politics:
http://www.smh.com.au/business/time-to-occupy-our-financial-hubs-20111010-1lgq9.html
Just my thoughts for what they are worth
Your thoughts are what make you YOU.
Just remember some of the people who will protest would love for those thoughts to be controlled.
That’s my rant!
Where to from here?
Nice rant rocket surgery.
you conveyed some important points. quite sensitive and empathetic
points I might add.
I think clear thinkers are often accused of ranting,I prefer a more respectable comment such as you have a passion for a subject.
cheers Ross

Could I get a copy of the poster so I can go print it.
http://i.imgur.com/ap5Mv.jpg
Here is the link for the posters I made. Looks like there will be a weekend hookup as well as the monday weekday one. This is an occupation so it doesn’t matter. But monday will be excellent becuase we can get in behind channel 7 sunrise.
Who said the protest needed to be one single day. No reason why it cannot continue indefinately.
HOWEVER some of us do WORK, do have mouths to feed.
So do not ecpect everyone to be there day in day out, it is just not feasible.
The carbon tax is only about corporate land grabbing and raising revenues by taxing the masses.
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Occupy -Australia/120325891405931
Anonymous-To-The-People-Of-Australia – YouTube
Valid Point !
We also need the Gold Standard back !
Indeed
Hi everyone. I have printed hundereds of posters saying the 17th of october is our day. I believe the 17th is ideal as the banks and the government will be open. If we get there early we can get onto the cameras at channel 7 sunrise program. I hadn’t heard of the 15th day untill someone just emailed me and said the protest is the 15th.
I hope this is ok with everyone let me know. I will begin distribution tonight.
Posters for the Monday surge.

Please distribute as widely as possible.
Suggest use of the human megaphone to get messages out during the rally. Check how this works at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCZLhEOJ8XA
Remember – no violence! And no verbal or physical violence towards the police. They are part of the 99% too (unless they are paid for by corporations as the NYPD special squad is – Who Really Owns The NYPD? Turns Out It’s Not Such A Rhetorical Question).

Looking foward to meeting you all. Do we need to wear guy fawkes masks to the meeting? : )
What an interesting (and challenging) meeting. You are all such an inspirational group of people. Thank you for being there. I love you all.
Very valid!
Damn good idea. If the ATO will allow you to handle their tax-greed via your PC and a security certificate, why can’t we vote via registered IP?
my grandmother doesn’t even know how to switch on a computer, how would use vote?
Does anyone really believe voting for any politician / party has any effect? They all continue with the same policies of more control, higher taxes, and less personal freedom.
Anyone who thinks the world’s problems can be solved politically isn’t really thinking … are they?
I guess half the population is worried that the risk of hacking/tampering of electronic voting booths outweigh the obvious efficiency gains. However, if it can work on Australian Idol…
LoL
I agree with AK
Start with Agenda 21 / ICLEI and Eugenics.
These are the things we need to rise up against!
I have insider information that The Australian will not run anything more then a 5 sentence blurb about this protest.
Pay your bills on time moron and/or don’t over commit yourself – you are the greedy bastard
If you don’t like the bank/interest rate, then don’t borrow money from them. No one is holding a gun to your head to walk into the bank.
I been there mate it sure works!
oh BTW … it was YOUR CHOICE to live the debtors lifestyle.
cheers johno
that was a complete waste of time
Good to see a lot of people in at Martin Place today.
I’m heading back in now, they are going to clear the place out at 4:30
So what is your alternative solution?
Agree with everything you say – the moron protesters should stop complaining about things they do not understand.
Corporate troll alert! Seriously start reading shit other than this Telegraph and you might realise there is more going on in the world.
Sleepers awake!
Gordon Gekko is alive and well.
Hi There
Im happy to help/volunteer where its needed.
Cheers
Guys, here is my long opinion:
A = 600,000 + 2,324 – 2,000 = 600,324 and increasing more and more without doing anything. 324???
B = 300,000 + 1,162 – 2,000 = 299,162 and decreasing to 0 if B never find a source of income.
Thanks for reading my long opinion.

You think that would be helpful? Think outside the box.

Poverty usually lies where there are no corporations… corporations provide jobs and generate wealth.
Well Johnno this page will not support anything to do with any protest on Rememberence Day.
Any ideas on something we can all agree about?
Yes and you are about to get what you asked for over then next week so do not stress we have the plan and are finalisinh it now. You will see a vast data dump over the next few days
Awesome, any possible rundown on the basic outline?
Also, if you guys need a hand with the dumpage, I’d be more than willing to help out.
Respect.
my bad sorry it’s occupyaustralia.org.au
Check this out, I reckon big potential for funniness and peaceful protest…
http://www.trackgooglevans.com
Track Google Vans gives you a way to effectually protest in the real world using just your computer and a finger. Or should I say many fingers.
Corporate greed brought the world to its knees in the recent Global Financial Crisis (GFC) and the world’s climate is out of control. In short, ‘who is running this place?’
Send the message that you think the world is being mismanaged, and do it in a manner that is peaceful; whilst allowing for a bit of fun as well. .!.. So,
If you want to “Stick it to the man,” .!..
Do it peacefully, and
—— ..!. “Stick it to the van!” .!..
